Many small breed dogs such as Chihuahuas, Yorkshire Terriers and Shih Tzus may be born with an abnormal vessel within the abdomen.  This vessel creates a bypass or shunting of blood away from the liver.  Over time this “shunt” leads to severe changes in the liver and overall status of the dog.  Using the CT to diagnose the shunt, the surgeon at All Pets is able to perform a corrective surgery that will be very helpful in many of these cases.   Many of them can lead normal lives after the procedure.
